New tricks
April 7, 2007 at 11:30 pm | In All about little boy | No CommentsHaven’t been updating about little boy’s devt for some time cos of all the time spent on scrapping and downloading more freebies, so here are some of the new stuff he has been doing lately:
- Standing and squatting - nowdays he can stand quite steadily on his feet for a few minutes, and sometimes he would lower himself to squatting position. So cute! According to my sis who has been coming with my parents on Saturdays to play with little boy for the past few weeks, he prob got his squatting skills from the playground visits when she brings him downstairs, as the ground is too hot for him to sit down and crawl. Thus if he is lazy to stand, then he gotta squat! So nowdays he would sometimes squat even at home, and he will play his toys while squatting. Haha…
- His love for music is really beginning to show. Few weeks back, he caught American Idol on one of the nights he woke up and refused to go back to bed. He was so entranced by the music and actually began to shake his bon bon! Then littleway bought him this learning robot for his birthday. One of the buttons, when pressed, will make the robot play different tunes. He loves that! And now, every morning the first thing he does when i put him on the playmat is to go over to the robot, press the music button (and he knows which one it is), and then clap his hands along to the music. Aiya… so cute! I got it on video using my hp, but have yet to learn how to upload to the comp for sharing… so i can only say again, SO CUTE! Thanks littleway… your pressie has become his current favourite toy.
- Staircases! We took him to my grandma’s place yesterday and he got to try climbing the stairs for the first time. Climbing up is not a problem, since he had so much practice climbing the sofa and armchair at home which is at greater heights. Of cos, climbing down is a different story, and i heard many babies often get stuck at the staircase cos they know how to climb up but not climb down! Little boy knows how to turn himself around to climb down the bed and armchair at home, but i wondered if he would know how to apply it to the staircase. Surprisingly, little boy was ablt to figure it out without much prompting. Of cos he paused between each step, looking back to see where the next one is, and probably wondering, how come it takes so much longer to climb down and the staircases seems so much longer than it did when climbing up! But he did it without rush, and finally when he got to the bottom, we all clapped for him, so he started clapping for himself. After that he couldn’t get enough of the staircase! He climbed even further the second time, then again took a long time to get down. After that, he started climbing up only a few steps and then coming down…. by then he probably realised it’s not a gd thing to be overly ambitious cos coming back down is hard work.
And the funny thing is, by his 3rd time we don’t clap for him anymore. But then he started clapping for himself, while looking at us expectantly, like waiting for his applause. After a few more times, he also stopped clapping for himself. Hahahaha…. well that’s what i mean by not over doing the applause and praise - the recipient can easily get used to it. - My mum always tries to drum in new words to him everytime she comes. So far she’s the only one who does it in such a persistent way, like repeating the words as many as 20+ times a day so that little boy gets it. I think if not for her, little boy prob won’t have much “accomplishments” in terms of his vocab, cos i do it in a more sporadic and random way, being kinda bochup abt it all. The latest one is “leg”. My mum keeps asking him where is his leg, while showing him her leg and slapping it. For a while, whenever she asks him where is his leg while slapping her own leg, little boy would join her in slapping HER leg too.
O cos, he finally learnt to point to his own leg in response to the question. Then tonight, he went a step further and bent down to slap his own leg. Ok, i guess my mum can proceed to other body parts now! - Little boy has always been kinda “teh”… you know, as in rest his head on the person’s shoulder and look shy kinda teh. These days he seem to be getting more and more teh. Even towards strangers, he bends to the side, cocking his head and gives them this sweet smile. Buay tahan! Though so far he hasn’t done that to other little girls yet… thank gdness, or i wldn’t know how to respond to their parents. Lately, he also likes to “teh” the soft toys… esp the softest most cuddly ones he would bend over and press his face towards them He has also finally become affectionate towards Buddy, this boy doll with long limbs that we bought for him - to the extent of rolling around on the bed while hugging Buddy close to him. He’s really quite a “girly boy”! Pple still ask us if he’s a boy or girl, even when he’s wearing obviously boy clothes. Not too sure if Mr Gua Gua’s too upset abt that, but i definitely don’t mind…hehe, in fact i plan on teaching little boy to bake in the future. Nothing wrong with bringing out the feminine side in guys… one less person in the world to get obsessed with violence and war!
Ok, this is not really a trick per se, but these mornings, i have been rudely woken up by little boy using stuff to hammer my head. Mostly he just uses his hand, which is not too bad, but the other day he was using a plastic lamp! I tried to cover my head to shield him off, and he managed to bang the uncovered parts. It just so happened that i just woke up from a bad dream, so i practically shouted at him to stop it. Argh! This morning, i woke up to find him holding my hairbrush right over me. Luckily he wasn’t planning to use it on me cos that WLD hurt. Gosh… wonder if i shld start wearing a helmet to bed. :/
Oh well, no matter how dangerous little boy sometimes might be, he is still getting cuter every day! And it looks like the next task he has on his list is to walk… in fact Mr Gua Gua and my mum has already seen him taken a few mini steps. Darn… sure hope that when he takes his first few proper steps, i’ll be there to catch the action!
